I recently needed to board one of my family pets for awhile. In the past, this was always an absolute last option. I would rather drive and take them along if I could. This was not always the best choice for them however.
I decided to see if there was a better option than the typical kennel environment that I had used in the past.
In my search I happened upon the Old Farm Pet Resort here in Salt Lake City. Their open play environment was perfectly suited for my active Vizsla who absolutely had to unwind herself with daily exercise to keep her happy and healthy.
I asked owner Leslie Pappas a few questions about the pet resort and how a pet owner could reduce or lessen the stress on their pet while they were staying at the facility.
Q: What prompted you to open a resort style facility for pets and animals?
A: I have always had a huge love for animals especially dogs & after years of working in different industries I decided I wanted to do something where I could be around dogs and other animals. I have always felt that helping animals is one of my purposes in this life so what a greater joy would there be than to work closely with them.
Q: How long has Old Farm Pet Resort been in business?
A: We have been in business for 7 years
Q: How do you insure a great time for every guest animal at your facility?
A: We make sure that all pets who visit the Old Farm have lots of play time including plenty of interaction with all our great staff. We also have pools for the dogs who want to take a splash. At night we turn on some easy listening music for our overnight guest to relax to and settle down for a great night sleep.
Q: What is the most exotic animal you have cared for at your facility?
A: We have had rabbits, chinchilla’s, an iguana, ferrets and we also board a blind duck (named Odie) who we love dearly.
Q: Do you offer other services besides boarding and daycare?
A: Besides Daycare & Boarding, we also offer Bathing, Grooming & Pet Supplies.
Q: Is there anything an owner can do to reduce the stress on their pet while boarding?
A: We always suggest that to make your pet the most comfortable while they are visiting us is to bring along their own bedding & a toy or two that they like. This just gives them a sense of security & a scent of home.
Q: How can readers help your less fortunate guests? (i.e. blankets, toys)
A: We always need & gladly accept beds, blankets, and comforters. We insure that every pet boarding at our facility has a nice comfy area to sleep on and we definitely go through a lot of these types of items.
Q: How many pets do you have personally?
A: I have numerous dogs myself, 3 of my dogs are rescues which is something I passionately believe in. I also help 3 rescue organizations at the Old Farm Pet Resort and we donate services & products to numerous non profit companies.
After my visits to the facility and meeting with the owner I can highly recommend Old Farm Pet Resort for boarding or doggie daycare services. Visit their website at www.oldfarmpetresort.com or call 801-266-9016 to schedule a free socialization screening for your larger family pet. This important screening can determine if an open-play environment is right for your dog.
