SLC Hemp Retail Store Opens in Sugar House: About the Merchant

What do Christopher Columbus sails, the first draft of the Declaration of Independence, and 23 year old entrepreneur Adam Wong have in common?

Retail store SLC Hemp opened in August in Sugar House, celebrating and selling all things hemp including clothing, beauty products, and nutritional supplements.

Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant, famous for its use as the recreational drug Marijuana. The hemp variety, however, contains levels of psychoactive chemicals far too low to be processed by humans and under strict regulations; it is allowed to be imported into the United States.

But what is it about this particular plant that sparked an entrepenuerial fire in a 23 year old young man?

My interest in Hemp was first sparked by the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer, said Adam, who is currently studying Entrenpenuership at the University of Utah.

After reading that book and buying several items of hemp clothing and bodycare products, I was convinced not only of the sustainability of industrial hemp, but the quality, strength, and comfort over traditional products.

To Adam, his store represents more than just a bottom line--it's an opportunity for him to spread the word about hemp and its oft-overlooked benefits.

Hemp is the worlds most versatile plant with the ability to make thousands of products. Almost every petrochemical product we use today can be made or grown sustainably with industrial hemp, from lubricant & insullation to paint, gasoline & dynamite, Adam said.

Head to SLC Hemp for the great selection of unique clothing items but don?t forget to stay for an informative conversation regarding the benefits and future of Hemp from the stores owner, Adam Wong.
